SO you think today’s Major League pitchers dish out home runs like lollipops? They’ve got nothing on Ben Strack, a 28-year-old California doctoral student, who on a good day coughs up 30 long balls in 40 pitches — and gets paid thousands of dollars for an afternoon’s work.
As helpless as big-league pitching staffs may be, Strack is not being courted by assorted clubs to join them when spring training opens in 10 days. Strack might be the worst pitcher on earth, a fellow with the habit of laying the ball right down the middle and seeing it slammed over the fence, pitch after neck-wrenching pitch.
